Parental leave

This indicator shows the percentage of benefit days at pregnancy, childbirth and adoption which were taken by men and the total amount of benefit days in 1000 of days. In all the Nordic countries, compensation is granted to cover any loss of income in connection with childbirth during the last few weeks prior to and at least the first months after childbirth. In all the countries, the benefit amount depends on any previous income but also on the length of the leave period and employees may receive their pay in full according to collective agreements. Data is available for Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Denmark: New method from 2002. Iceland: Until 2000: Entitlement to daily cash benefit during maternity leave will lapse if a mother is entitled to full pay from her employer. For more information on Nordic Statistics:
