Induced abortions

This indicator shows the number of legally induced abortions per 1 000 women in the childbearing age in the Nordic region. Since the mid 1970s, induced abortions have been available in most of the Nordic countries. In Denmark, Greenland, Norway and Sweden, it is entirely up to the pregnant woman in the early stages of pregnancy to determine whether to have an abortion. In Denmark, Greenland, Norway and Sweden, it is solely up to the pregnant woman herself to decide whether an abortion is to be performed, while permission is required in the Faroe Islands, Finland, Aland and Iceland.
