Induced abortions

This indicator shows the number of legally induced abortions per 1 000 live births in the Nordic region. Data is available for Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Åland. Since the mid 1970s, induced abortions have been legal in most of the Nordic countries. In Denmark, Greenland, Norway and Sweden, it is solely up to the pregnant woman herself to decide whether an abortion is to be performed, while permission is required in the Faroe Islands, Finland, Åland and Iceland.
