Energy intensity

This indicator shows the energy intensity in the Nordic region, expressed as gross inland consumption of energy divided by GDP in million euros. A decrease in the energy intensities shows that less energy is used to generate a unit of GDP, here measured in Terajoule (TJ) energy per unit of GDP in million euros (chain-linked volumes). Chain-linked volumes refer to the level of gross domestic product (GDP) when the effects of price changes (inflation/deflation) have been removed. However, changing exchange rates between national currencies and the euro may still affect the development in the intensities, especially for Norway, Iceland and Sweden. Data is available for Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, as well as the European Union (EU28) and the Euro area (EA19). For more information on Nordic Statistics:
