Domestic extraction by material category

This indicator shows the amount of natural resources extracted from the environment per unit of GDP in the Nordic region. The types of natural resources are biomass, metal ores (gross ores), non-metallic minerals and fossil energy. Non-metallic minerals include sand and gravel, etc. which are used, predominantly, for construction and building activities. The extraction of natural resources is measured in thousand tonnes and is compared to GDP in million euros (current prices) in order to be expressed in kilos per euro GDP. The indicator is therefore affected by the exchange rate between national currencies and euro. Data is available for Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, as well as the European Union (EU28).
