Consumption of renewable energies

This indicator shows the share of renewables in the final energy consumption. This share has become an increasingly important policy target in the Nordic countries and the EU motivated by the wish to combat climate change. For the EU, the target is a 20 per cent share in 2020. The 2020 national targets for the shares are 30 per cent for Denmark, 72 per cent for Iceland, 49 per cent for Sweden, 38 per cent for Finland, and 67.5 percent for Norway. Renewable energy includes hydropower, geothermal energy, wind energy, and fuels from biomass. Also renewable municipal waste is included. Only final energy consumption is included in this indicator. Final energy consumption excludes energy used by the energy sector itself, including for deliveries, and transformation of energy to e.g. heat and electricity.
