Organic farming area

This indicator shows organic farming area in per cent of total farm area in the Nordic region. The total farm area is the sum of arable land and permanent meadows and pastures. Organic farming can be defined as a method of production which places the highest emphasis on environmental protection and with regard to livestock production and animal welfare considerations. It avoids or largely reduces the use of synthetic chemical units such as fertilisers, pesticides, additives and medicinal products. Data is available for Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Åland. In Åland only arable land is included. For more information on Nordic Statistics:
